Distribution of Royalties

We pay out the licence fees we collect at least once a year. Before we do, we deduct the cost of running URRO, which is capped at thirty per cent of what we collect. Everything else goes to rightsholders.

Payments are based on evidence of what was actually copied, gathered from usage surveys and reports by licensed institutions. Every payment comes with a statement showing what was collected, what was deducted and how your share was worked out. You can follow your payments in the Rightsholders Portal.

What the law says: Under section 57 of the Act, a collecting society pays royalties to its members or to any other owner who is the appropriate beneficiary. You do not have to be a member to be paid for the use of your work, and non-members are paid under the same rules as members.

Royalty distribution

URRO collects fees from licensed institutions, verifies the usage data, calculates the share due to each rightsholder, and pays that share transparently and consistently. This closes the gap between lawful copying and fair compensation, ensuring the people who create works receive the value of their contribution.

Are we looking for you?

Sometimes we collect money for a work whose author, illustrator, photographer or publisher we cannot trace. We hold that money for three years while we search. The works concerned are listed here. If you see your work, or know the person who made it, please get in touch.
