Access to Copyrighted Works
URRO is dedicated to advancing the interests of text and image-based creators while providing lawful access to their works. A central objective of URRO is making works available to user institutions within the boundaries of the law.
We do this by putting in place licence agreements that allow institutions — such as universities, colleges and libraries — to lawfully access and use a broad range of creative works. These agreements respect the rights of authors and publishers while opening up the rich repertoire of literature needed for learning, teaching and research.
Access is granted within the legal framework set out in the Copyright and Neighbouring Rights Act 2006 and the Regulations of 2010, striking a balance between safeguarding rightholders and meeting the needs of users.
Enabling access to works is a vital part of the copyright ecosystem. It promotes a rich educational and research environment that contributes to Uganda's intellectual growth and development.
