Service
Licensing & Collecting Royalties
A core service of URRO is negotiating licences for the use of copyright-protected literary works and collecting royalties from users on behalf of the rightholders we represent.
Licensing begins with agreements reached with user institutions — primarily universities, colleges, schools and other organisations that wish to copy or digitally reproduce protected works. URRO ensures these licences are fair and equitable for both sides.
Once a licence is in place, URRO collects the agreed fees from users. This structured approach protects intellectual property while ensuring authors and publishers are paid for the use of their work.
Users benefit enormously: instead of tracking down dozens of individual rightholders to negotiate separate permissions, they obtain one blanket licence from URRO that covers our entire repertoire — including foreign works from RROs with whom we have reciprocal agreements.
This service rewards creative effort and stimulates further creativity and innovation, promoting a respectful and sustainable environment for the use of literary works in Uganda.
